Pacman Jones: Who Gives a Shit?

This guy has to be one of the most over hyped/talked about fuck-ups ever. At least with the 24-7 ESPN coverage of Brett Farve and Tiger Woods you’re talking about two of the best in their respective sports. Adam “Pacman” Jones hasn’t done shit.
Since being drafted 6th overall in 2005 by the Titans, the Pacman hasn’t had much of an impact. He’s only played 30 games in 5 seasons. One reason for the lack of playing is the fact that he can’t stay out of trouble. He actually missed the entire 2007 season and 6 in 2008 for being a chode. But with a name like that who could stay out of trouble? In those 30 games he did manage to play in, he had 4 int’s and 3 return td’s, all of which came in 2006. So all this fuss is being made over a guy who can’t keep the old Tom Sawyer in his pants and hasn’t done anything of importance on the field in 4 years. What a great story.

I guess it pays to have a nickname these days. In that same 2005 draft class another guy with a nickname, Carnell “Cadillac” Williams won the rookie of the year award. Don’t get me wrong the caddy had a good year, but there were other rookie rb’s that could have gotten the nod (Brown,Gore). I’m sure the Pacman will lots of ghosts and fish tacos in Cincinnati this year if he doesn’t get suspended.

"Don’t taze me bro!"

I’m sure you have all heard about the kid getting tased Monday night at the Phillies game. Here is the video.
It’s a little far away, but if you listen closely, you can actually hear fans shouting “Taze him!” Fans should not be idiots and run onto the field period, but the crowd screaming for blood reminds me of some medieval beheading. Just a little disturbing.

While listening to KNBR 680 this morning, one of the hosts said that the kid actually called his dad and asked for permission before jumping onto the field. His dad told him it wasn’t a good idea. So now instead of being at school this morning, the kid is standing before a judge. Lesson learned I guess.

Just for fun, here is the original.
Don’t step out of line boys and girls…

Big-Time Timmy Jim or The Freak?

The recent ESPN commercial with Tim Lincecum got me thinking, what is his official nickname?

What nickname do you give a soon to be 26 year old who looks like he's 14 and has 2 Cy Young awards, 2 all-star selections, the best pitch in baseball, an unusual delivery, a cover for a video game, a marijuana bust, long hair, and wears the same hat every year?

So far, there's the Freak, the Franchise, the Freaky Franchise, Big-Time Timmy Jim, and Timmay!!! All of them are appropriate in their own sense, and I guess you can make the argument that someone of his ability and personality shouldn't be limited to just one nickname. But, I think it's time we come up with what we'll call him for the rest of his career.

The Freak: It works because when looking at Timmy he looks like he's still in high school. He doesn't look like he can even play a professional sport other than maybe being a horse jockey. At 5-11 and 170 lbs, Lincecum is one of the smallest guys in the game, but at the same time he is one of the most intimidating pitchers in the game. So, being able to pitch the way he's capable of is certainly freakish; add in his unusual delivery, mullet, and filthy hat and the case for the Freak is even stronger.

The Franchise: This works because he has certainly become the face of the Giants after the Bonds-era. He is an elite pitcher that you can build an entire Franchise around. He has the competitive fire you want from a guy leading your team and he has the friendly personality that you want from your franchise player. My only problem with this is that it's sort of generic and it's a nickname that is given to all up-and-coming stars. We need something more original.

Big-Time Timmy Jim: I like this, maybe because the commercial is so funny and it just hooked me. I tried to figure out where the Jim part came from. His middle name is LeRoy and his dad's name is Chris. So, it's possible that it just came out of convienence for the commercial. Anyway, Timmy has become big time. There isn't a pitcher in baseball I would rather see take the mound in an important game for the Giants.

So, what do you guys think? I know there has to be other obscure nicknames that I haven't heard yet. So if you guys got anything throw it down on the comments. I guess, if all else fails, we could go with the Freaky Franchise Big-Time Timmay-Jim!!!

Just for fun, what are some other good nicknames for current Giants players? I know that there's the Panda or Pandavol, Meat, Eu-Hen-E-O, U-RBI, and B-Wil. I used to call Zito the big Zit, but that's not appropriate any more. You guys have any others?
